Eligibility

Who can apply?

People who meet all of the following requirements:

Are aged 16 or over
Have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years prior to the start of their course
Have permission to work in the UK
Are facing a barrier to employment or education
Cannot fund their training through any other means, such as statutory grants or loans
Are not already qualified to work
Are studying a technical or skills-based course that is below degree level
Can demonstrate compelling need

 

 

Grants are not made:

To undergraduate degree students (this includes first and second degrees)
To postgraduate level students
To courses that are level 4 and above
To PhD students
For higher education courses that qualify for student finance funding
To those who have not been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years prior to the start of their course
To those who are earning above an average salary (£26,500 p.a)
To those with a family income above the average salary (£26,500 p.a)
To those considered 'employable' or 'qualified to work'
For travel, study or work experience abroad
For elective periods or intercalated courses
For business start-up costs
For GCSEs or A Levels
To school children
